Tres Leches
Tres Leches
At the Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetics Guild Conference this spring, one of the presenters made a soap with honey, molasses, and maple sugar to show how the 3 different sugars reacted differently in the soap, creating 3 subtly different colors. Since then I've been wanting to make a Tres Leches bar with 3 different milks.
I wanted 3 different milks, much for the same reason my typical base recipe uses 6 different oils - each one brings something different to the party: Nourishing, moisturizing, lather, hardness, shelf stability. In the same way, the qualities of Cow's Milk, Goat's Milk, and Coconut milk are all a little bit different. The protein and sugar contents vary which impacts the color too...so I used all 3, and poured them one by one to create the different color layers.
There's no fragrance added to these bars but the sugars in the milk leave a soft lingering sweet smell, almost like a plain yellow sheet cake. The lather in these is SO fluffy. I've been wanting to start a line of unscented soaps for a while, and these are the first ones! More to come.
